Artist Statement
I am a German-Scottish artist and designer living and working in Oban on Scotland’s northwest coast. My practice explores the land from above, across both rural and urban environments, focusing on the relationship between natural forms and human-made marks.
My work is grounded in place and movement. Through drawing and painting, I record landscapes as systems shaped by activity, memory, and time. I am interested in how land is worked, settled, abandoned, and navigated, and how these processes leave visible traces.
Alongside my studio practice, I curate Colours Scotland and am a founding partner at the branding studio Freytag Anderson. I studied at Gray’s School of Art and have lived and worked in New York, London, and Sydney before returning to Scotland
ONGOING SERIES
The Made by Land series draws from landscapes across Scotland that were forcibly cleared of people. Abandoned villages, roofless croft houses, and fading field lines remain as quiet evidence of lives once lived. These works consider absence, resilience, and the enduring influence of land on identity.
In Everywhere Leads Everywhere, I focus on the urban landscape. Informed by running and navigation, the series explores disorientation as a way of understanding place. Routes overlap, paths converge, and getting lost becomes a productive state. The work reflects a belief that places and lives are interconnected, and that movement reveals patterns not immediately visible.
